This Archetype is number 19 of 22 Trump or Major Arcana cards in the Tarot. While the remaining pip and court cards portray more mundane realities, these cards represent higher energies, karmic forces, powers beyond our control, and superhuman strengths. In the Thoth Tarot deck, the Sun is ruled by ... the Sun The Sun
~ Joy & Security ~ The child in his garden knows he is loved. He is safe and carefree, and basks in the healing light of the Sun. He is surrounded by greenery and vibrant life - the lush valley nurtures him, and the majestic mountains protect him from harm. Whether he has an inner knowing that all is well, or he is blessed with the loving arms of family and friends, his reality is that life will go on and he will enjoy every moment. The Sun is about this feeling. This is the place where nothing can go wrong. I compare the feeling to a family picnic, vacation or outing, free from strife. The Sun is a day off from work with no responsibilities, the clear skies after a storm or the warm feeling of release and joy associated with a loving or sexual embrace. No worries, pure joy.
When I see this card in a reading, it warms up the surrounding cards and encourages a happy outcome. Although there are times when an adjacent card can put a damper on the Sun's reassurance, the life force that emanates from our very own star still insists on keeping us warm and safe. The Sun nurtures our creativity and fuels our hopes and dreams. The vitality of this card, for me, shines through any negative energy and sheds a hopeful light.
